    Posts, footings and framing first, then boards, railings and gates. The site is cleaned up at the end of each day.

Fence questions

Do I need a permit for a fence?
Most residential fences in the GTA don't need a building permit, but they must follow the city's fence bylaw for height and location. Pool enclosures have their own stricter rules. We check the bylaw for your address before building.
Who pays for a fence between neighbours?
Many neighbours agree to split the cost of a shared fence. In Ontario, the Line Fences Act sets out a process where neighbours can't agree, but talking it through first is almost always faster. We can quote the shared fence so you both see the same numbers.
How do I know where my property line is?
A property survey is the most reliable way. If you don't have one, we recommend confirming the line before a new fence goes up, especially if the old fence may not have been on the line.
How much does a new fence cost?
Wood privacy fences in the GTA typically run $70 to $120 per linear foot installed, chain link $30 to $60 and aluminum $80 to $200. See our fence cost guide for all fence types, gates and removal.
What fence lasts the longest?
Aluminum and vinyl need the least upkeep and don't rot. A well-built pressure-treated or cedar fence with posts set properly can also last many years, with occasional sealing.
