Pool fences

Pool enclosures follow stricter rules

Check the city page for your area for local limits.

Minimum height

Each city sets a minimum pool fence height, often 1.2 m or more. Some are higher.

Self-closing gates

Gates must close and latch on their own, with the latch out of a child's reach.

Gaps and climbing

Picket spacing and horizontal rails are limited so the fence can't be squeezed through or climbed.

Permit and inspection

Most cities require a pool enclosure permit and an inspection before the pool is filled.

Aluminum fence questions

Can an aluminum fence be used around a pool?
Yes, aluminum is a popular pool fence. Pool enclosures have their own bylaw rules in each city, including minimum height, gate latches and gaps between pickets. We build to the rules for your address and the city inspects before the pool is filled.
Does aluminum fencing rust?
Aluminum doesn't rust the way steel does. A powder-coated finish protects it and keeps the colour.
Is aluminum fencing private?
Standard picket aluminum fences are open, so they're better for boundaries, front yards and pools than privacy. Privacy slats or panels are available in some systems.
Can aluminum follow a slope?
Many aluminum panels can rack to follow a gentle slope. Steeper grades are stepped.
