Arterial roads and a survey first
Whitby's new fence bylaw allows fences up to 2.5 m where a yard backs onto an arterial road, a real benefit for homes along busy streets. Height exemptions above that go through a tiered application.
A fence doesn't need a permit in Whitby, but the Town recommends getting a site survey first. Some projects need Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority approval before a building permit.
